I love it when my granddaughter says, “Mama Dee, I have a question.” I already know we’re about to have a delightful conversation until she’s ready to move on to something else—like ice cream or building a fort in my den. You know, priorities.

As Christian women, we often have big questions about life, too. But unlike my granddaughter, we might be afraid to ask them. Deep down, we wonder, is it really OK to question God?

The Questions We’re Afraid to Ask

  • Why do bad things happen to good people? Why do good things happen to bad people?
  • Why me, why now, why this? Why did my loved one have to die?
  • Why can’t I have children when women who don’t want them get pregnant all the time?

These are heavy, heart-wrenching questions.

Sometimes they keep us up at night, wondering:

  • Does God really care?
  • Does He hear our prayers?
  • Does He see our tears?

I understand this struggle. I’ve cried many nights over my son, who once professed faith in Jesus but later rejected Him publicly. I’ve watched him try to fill his pain with alcohol, insisting he didn’t have a problem. Another son was arrested after drinking too much, spending eighteen hours in a jail cell before we knew it.

As a mom, I asked God: How could You allow this? Why would You let such gifted young men stray from You?

And maybe you’ve wondered the same about your own family, your own loss, your own unanswered prayers.

The Enemy’s Oldest Scam

One day, riding in the car, my granddaughter asked me, “Mama Dee, what is a scam?” I explained that a scam is when someone tricks you to make you believe something that isn’t true.

That’s exactly what Satan has been doing since the Garden of Eden.

He asked Eve: “Did God really say?” (Genesis 3:1).

The Enemy still whispers the same scam into our hearts today:

  • If God is love, why is there so much suffering?
  • If God is kind, why do bad things happen?
  • If God is forgiving, why do I still feel shame?

Satan’s goal is to twist our questions into doubts that distance us from God. But here’s the truth: asking questions is not wrong. What matters is where we take those questions—to the Lord who loves us.

Guarding Against the Enemy’s Lies

If we want to guard against the Enemy’s scams, we must stay rooted in God’s Word. The Bible calls us to:

  • Be alert. (1 Peter 5:8–9)
  • Renew our minds. (Romans 12:2)
  • Take every thought captive. (2 Corinthians 10:4–5)
  • Think on what is excellent and praiseworthy. (Philippians 4:8)

When we know God’s Word, we will begin to live God’s Word. And as we live God’s Word, we naturally begin to share God’s Word with others.

And don’t forget—praise is one of your most powerful weapons! The Devil cannot stand it when you open your mouth and lift the name of Jesus.

Abiding When We Don’t Have Answers

The most important thing we can do when life doesn’t make sense is to abide in Christ. Abiding isn’t about striving harder or trying to be the perfect Christian woman. It’s about remaining close to Jesus, who said, “Apart from Me, you can do nothing” (John 15:5).

Jesus warned us that trouble would come (John 16:33). And I believe He knew we would wrestle with questions, too. But He doesn’t shame us for asking, He welcomes us into a relationship.

So, Is It OK to Question God?

Yes. It’s absolutely OK to question God.

Because of Jesus, you and I have a relationship with the God who created the heavens and the earth. He’s big enough to handle your doubts, fears, and questions. And guess what? He already knows what’s in your heart.

He may not answer every “why” right away. But He will give His peace, His presence, and His assurance that He is faithful and trustworthy.

So, dear friend, the next time you find yourself wondering, “Is it OK to question God?-remember this:

You’re not doubting His existence. You’re leaning into His love, asking the One who knows you best to meet you where you are.

Call to Action

Sweet friend, if you’re carrying heavy questions, don’t carry them alone. Take them to the Lord in prayer—and write them down as you pour out your heart to Him.

Here are a few of my favorite verses that remind me that God hears me when I pray:

Jeremiah 29:12
Jeremiah 33:3
Psalm 55:16-17
Proverbs 15:29
