Cultivating a heart of gratitude as a Modern Proverbs 31 Woman takes time. We don’t just arrive one day and think, “Wow! I’ve done it!”

There will be seasons when we take one step forward and two steps back—and others when life feels almost too good to be true.

But no matter the season, we can still seek a grateful heart.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 reminds us:

In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.

Let’s look closely at this verse as a challenge to put our faith into action.

In Everything

“Everything” can sometimes feel like all the things happening at once.
Having a thankful mindset isn’t easy when life is hard.

But it’s in these moments that we have the opportunity to grow deeper in our faith. When we pause to pray, focus our minds on God’s goodness, and give thanks—even for the hard things—our trials can become moments of worship.

Give Thanks

How do we tell God “thank You” when life is all-consuming—when we’re facing broken relationships, job loss, a diagnosis, or unruly kids?
In seasons of hardship, it’s easy to give in to the chaos of our thoughts and emotions.

Sometimes we may need counseling or medical help when life’s pressures lead us toward worry or fear. But even then, giving thanks to God brings blessing when we choose it.

A gentle reminder: Feelings are real, but they’re not always the facts.

A woman of God knows she must choose her thoughts in order to manage her emotions. Choosing to thank God—even in the trial—is a faith-building exercise we can all practice.

While well-meaning friends may try to lighten our load or listen to our complaints, the Modern Proverbs 31 Woman learns to pour out her heart to the Lord first.

Giving thanks shifts our focus from our circumstances to the One who reigns over them.

Our problems are real—and sometimes bigger than we can manage—but God is greater still. He knows how to care for us in ways no friend ever could.

Let me say it again: When we take time to pray, focus on God’s goodness, and give thanks—even for the hard things—our trials can become worship.

This Is the Will of God

“How do I know God’s will for my life?” I’ve asked myself that question, too.

The in-between seasons—when we’re letting go of one thing and waiting for what’s next—can feel lonely and uncertain. But here’s what I’ve learned:

I can fret about the unknown future, or I can focus on the God who’s already there.

Giving thanks draws our attention to God’s heart and allows us to rest in His care. Worry, fear, and anxiety cannot coexist with faith-filled, focused gratitude.

When we set our thoughts higher—on God’s faithfulness—our hearts find rest. Peace that makes no sense becomes ours, and others notice how we move through life’s challenges with grace and faith.

Peace that makes no sense becomes ours when we thank God...even in the trial

In Christ Jesus

Only Jesus.

He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Through Christ, we have relationship with God the Father. And because Jesus gave us the Holy Spirit—our Comforter—we are never alone.

The Prince of Peace is our peace when chaos threatens to take over. Because Jesus reigns, we can remain calm, steady, and surrendered.

For You

Gratitude helps us rest in God’s love when life feels “too much” or “not enough.” Even when our prayers seem unanswered, we can still find peace.

God’s best Yes is always better than anything we could imagine. Learning to wait patiently for His timing is both a blessing and a treasure.

The Gratitude Challenge

Here’s a truth to remember: We get to tell ourselves what to think about.

So, here’s your challenge—your invitation to live out gratitude as a faith in action moment.

Instead of dwelling on what feels hard or imperfect, let’s flip the script and focus outward. Gratitude for others helps us step out of our own worries and lift others up.

Here’s the Challenge:

Grab some pretty thank-you notes and your favorite pen. Then write three (or more!) notes to these people:

  1. Someone from your past.
This person once impacted your life but isn’t part of your daily world anymore. Write a short, handwritten note letting them know the difference they made.

  2. Someone in your present.
This person blesses you right now—maybe a friend, mentor, or coworker. Send them a few heartfelt lines of appreciation.

  3. Someone you admire from afar.
This person might not know you personally, but you appreciate their example. It’s okay if they’re surprised by your note—just keep it simple and sincere.

A text is nice, but a handwritten note is special. Imagine the joy on their faces as they open your letter!

Trust me—your timing may be perfect. God can use your words of thanks to encourage them right when they need it most.

Make the effort. Send the notes. Then see who’s more blessed—them or you.

I believe your heart will feel lighter and your spirit lifted as you express gratitude for others.

💙 Your Turn

Will you take a few minutes to thank God for knowing your season—every trial, every unknown—and for already holding the answer? Can you choose to trust Him, no matter the outcome?

Tell Him.

Then, take up the Thank You Note Challenge! I’ve already thought of my three people—have you?

As we become more intentional about expressing gratitude, our faith grows stronger, and we begin to see God’s hand more clearly at work in our lives.
