What the Boy with Five Loaves and Two Fish Can Teach Us

Hello friends! Welcome back.

Today we’re continuing our series on Open-Handed Living, and I want to ask you a simple question.

Have you ever felt like what you have to offer simply isn’t enough?

Maybe you’ve thought, “I don’t have enough experience,” or “Someone else could do this better.”

I’ve certainly been there.

One of my favorite stories in Scripture is found in John 6. Thousands of people gathered to hear Jesus teach, and when it came time to feed them, one young boy offered the only meal available—five loaves of bread and two fish.

It wasn’t much.

But it was enough when placed in Jesus’ hands.

Years ago, I found myself wrestling with those same feelings of inadequacy as God called me into worship ministry. I kept thinking he needed someone more gifted, more experienced, or more confident.

Instead, He simply asked me to offer what He had already given me.

Looking back now, I can clearly see that God never asked me to bring more than I had. He only asked me to trust Him.

Friend, maybe that’s exactly where you are today.

What are your “five loaves and two fish”?

Perhaps it’s your gift of encouragement.

Your hospitality.

Your wisdom.

Your ability to listen.

Your creativity.

Don’t wait until you think you have enough.

Offer God what you have today.

Because the miracle has never depended on the size of the gift.

It has always depended on the Savior who receives it.

Remember:

God specializes in multiplying surrendered lives.

God never asked me to bring more than I had

If today’s message encouraged you, I’d love to hear what your “five loaves” are in the comments below.

And if you’re looking for a community of Christian women learning to move from striving to abiding, I’d love to invite you to join Rooted & Established.

Until next time…
