Trustworthiness, Diligence, and Purposeful Living

(Proverbs 31:11–12, 13–19)

Faithful in the Ordinary Everyday

I remember vividly sitting on the couch, folding laundry and trying to match toddler socks. There were so many of them, and somehow always an odd number.

In that season, we had three toddlers under the age of four. I often felt alone, weary, and wondered if I was making a difference.

📋 Each day looked much the same.

  •  The same grocery list.
  •  The same meals.
  •  The same routines.

Monotony…
Would it ever change?

What I didn’t realize then was that faithfulness in the small, ordinary things is a powerful form of spiritual growth.

It was during that season that I began learning what it meant to become a godly woman.

My days were filled with cooking, cleaning, singing songs, reading books to little ones…and finding moments to read and study God’s Word for myself.

They were also filled with exhaustion and frustration.

But it was in that very season that I found myself turning to God, asking Him to shape my heart and teach me who He was calling me to be.

Spiritual Growth Happens Within

“A good person produces good out of the good stored up in his heart…”
— Luke 6:45 (CSB)

I won’t pretend I always spoke with patience or grace. Frustration surfaced more often than I’d like to admit. Still, one desire anchored me: to be trustworthy with the heart of my husband.

While he was pastoring our youth group, I was at home pastoring our little ones.

“Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.”
— Proverbs 31:11 (NIV)

Proverbs 31:11

Being the wife of a youth pastor was meaningful and joyful, but my primary calling in that season was at home. My number one responsibility was to nurture our children and steward the household God had entrusted to us.

“She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.”
— Proverbs 31:12 (NIV)

Those years required sacrifice. To help make ends meet, I cared for other children and ran a small residential cleaning business. I worked hard to maintain an orderly home and prepare simple, home-cooked meals.

My desire was simple: to honor the Lord, support my husband, and teach our children to love God.

That required diligence. Day after day. Often without recognition.

The Proverbs 31 Woman’s Example

Proverbs 31:13–19 gives us a picture of a woman who was capable, hardworking, and purposeful.

In modern terms, she:

  • Provided clothing and food for her family
  • Planned ahead and rose early
  • Managed resources wisely
  • Invested and worked profitably
  • Opened her hands to the poor
  • Created a home that was warm and welcoming

It’s exhausting just reading the list.

🔑But here’s the key: she didn’t do all of this at once or in one season.

Her life reflects diligence over time. She understood her purpose in each season and faithfully stewarded what was placed before her.

Faithful for the Modern Proverbs 31 Woman

Faithful stewardship in everyday life matters.

The ordinary parts of our days are not interruptions to our purpose; they are the very places where purpose is formed.

I look back on those early motherhood years with deep gratitude.

Having an empty nest today is a gift, but I still find myself asking familiar questions: Do my contributions matter? Am I making a difference?

My role now is to be a faithful steward of my influence that extends beyond the walls of my home.

The early years seemed endless, but they did end. And,  like all seasons in life, we are called to be present and purposeful in our calling as Modern Proverbs 31 Women.

What I learned then still anchors me today:
God uses faithful obedience in ordinary seasons to prepare us for future influence.

YOUR TURN

Pause & Reflect: Faithfulness in Your Everyday

Take a moment right now to slow down, breathe, and ask yourself the following questions:

  1. What are the “ordinary” tasks or routines in your current season of life that feel unseen or repetitive?
  2. Where might God be inviting you to practice faithfulness rather than striving for significance?
  3. How do your daily rhythms reflect what you value most right now?
  4. In what ways can you intentionally invite God into your everyday work, caregiving, or responsibilities?
  5. Looking back, can you identify a season where God used small acts of obedience to shape your character?
