We are recently back from a week at the beach, and I keep replaying one of my favorite moments in my mind.
Our 8-year-old granddaughter asked me to sit with her at the edge of the ocean and let the waves come to us. The weather was perfect, the water refreshing, and her laughter was the sounded of my favorite melody.
As we played together, I realized I didn’t want that moment to end. It’s now a treasured memory I can hold onto whenever life feels overwhelming—one I can call back to when anxiety threatens to steal my peace.

When Life Is Hard Anxiety Creeps In
Much has happened in our world in the last few months. Headlines are filled with violence, political division, and international tension. It seems that fear and conflict dominate our news feeds.
No wonder the Modern Proverbs 31 Woman feels anxiety pressing in from every side.
And it’s not just world events. At home, Christian women face challenges like work-life balance, health concerns, financial strain, and relational struggles. Social media adds pressure by creeping into our minds with unrealistic standards of success and appearance.
How can the Modern Proverbs 31 Woman move through all of this with dignity and grace? How can we look to Proverbs 31 as a guide for our lives today when it seems the woman described had it easier?
The truth is…she didn’t.
The Proverbs 31 Woman wasn’t immune to anxiety. She had her share of worries and responsibilities: managing her household, running a business, and caring for her family. She knew what it meant to feel pressure.
So what do we do when the cares of life weigh us down, when our minds race with anxious thoughts?
Look to the God of Peace to Guard Your Mind
This may sound oversimplified, but it’s the truth: the key to overcoming anxiety is found in Philippians 4:6-7
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Paul isn’t dismissing anxiety here—he’s acknowledging it. He gives us a remedy: when anxiety arises, prayer, gratitude, and surrender are the way through.
How to Overcome Anxious Thoughts
- Pray when anxiety rises. Talk to God about your worries, even the small ones.
- Be thankful in the middle of anxiety. Gratitude shifts our perspective.
- Give everything to God. Release control and trust His outcomes.
The promise is clear: the peace of God will guard your heart and mind.
Spiritual discipline is required to seek the God of Peace when our minds are troubled.

The Peace of God
The peace we have access to is unlike anything the world offers. World peace may be fragile or nonexistent, but God’s peace is steady and strong.
The Modern Proverbs 31 Woman doesn’t chase worldly calm—she anchors herself in God’s peace. His peace quiets our racing thoughts, steadies our anxious hearts, and reminds us that He is in control of every outcome.
Remember the Moments
When my mind drifts to worst-case scenarios about our prodigal son, anxiety quickly follows. The enemy wants me to camp in fear and worry. But that’s when I fight back.
- I give God praise.
- I practice thanksgiving.
- I remember His promises.
- I recall the joyful moments He has given me -like sitting by the ocean with my granddaughter.
Worry and thanksgiving cannot coexist. One will always win, and it’s the one we feed.
When we choose to feed our minds with God’s faithfulness, His Word, and moments of joy, the “peace of God that surpasses all understanding” will guard our hearts and minds.

A Word on Anxiety
I’ve talked about anxiety in this post, but I want to be clear: I am not a medical doctor or trained professional. I am not addressing the clinical diagnosis of anxiety.
I’m speaking to the spiritual keys God gives us in His Word to help us when life feels overwhelming.
If you feel you need medical help or professional counseling, please seek it.
At the same time, remember this: God’s Word is our first line of defense, and His peace is available to us today.
Final Encouragement
As Modern Proverbs 31 Women, we can’t avoid every headline, every hardship, or every anxious thought. But we can choose where to focus.
When we fix our minds on God’s presence, His promises, and His peace, anxiety loses its grip. And just like that beachside moment with my granddaughter, we’ll discover joy-filled reminders of God’s faithfulness which are the moments we won’t want to end.
